Using my blog with my second graders
I am excited to share this technology with my students. My first idea is to have my students type an entry about their performance called, The Second Grade Love Show! I can't wait to show them their entries. I also would like to publish their writing. Second graders get so excited when they see their writing published. It is truly amazing. Although I know as a primary teacher I may not use the blog feature as much as upper grades, I still believe it will be an exciting and useful tool for my classroom!

I think blogs are part of the natural evolution of teaching. I use them with our email system called gaggle. The kids blog about their in-class reading assignment and this helps other students pick their next guided reading book.
An idea to use your blog with young students can be found in the Edutopia video titled "A fantastic, super use of technology" at: http://www.edutopia.org/fantastic-super-use-technology
It's worth the 7 minutes to see the little boy dictate to his teacher as she posts his comments online for all parents to read.
I remember one summer I had an opportunity to teach computers to students from 1st to 6th grade. They were all excited to use technology on such mundane tasks as typing their name on a Word document and formatting it to different colors, sizes, and fonts. The best part was when they had an opportunity to print their names out in color!
I think implementing the blog with your 2nd graders will be an interesting experience. Please let me know how that goes.
